Each year the Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board adopts the Washington State Noxious Weed List. New weeds can be added, existing weeds can be removed or the classification can be changed on existing listed weeds. Each county in the state then adopts a county noxious weed list. Whatcom County has four new weeds added to the county list for 2022. You can get a quick introduction to the new noxious weeds here.
Prohibited Plant List
The Washington State Prohibited Plant List (PDF) contains the names of those plants for which it is illegal to transport, buy, sell, offer for sale, intentionally transplant or distribute plants or any plant parts within the State of Washington. This list is different from the Whatcom County Noxious Weed List and the Washington State Noxious Weed List. Several new weed species, including Italian Arum and Myrtle Spurge, have been added to the Prohibited Plant List in 2021.
