Construction Schedule:

Permanent Roadway repair work is scheduled to begin in August 2022.

Project Overview

A portion of Deer Trail is experiencing structural failure and severe erosion from an extreme wet weather event that happened in late 2020 and early 2021. The location of this issue is approximately 400 feet north of the intersection of Deer Trail and Birch Bay Drive. For safety, this portion of the roadway is currently restricted to one-lane traffic with temporary stop signs to control traffic. Concrete ‘jersey’ barriers keep vehicles from getting too close to the damaged pavement.

In response to the landslide event, Whatcom County Public Works contracted with a local geotechnical engineering firm to evaluate the site and determine if traffic can continue to safely utilize the one-lane restricted roadway.
