Needs Based Ferry Tickets

Fares as of June 1, 2008

Passenger/Pedestrian, multi-ride, cost $17 for 25 roundtrips.

Vehicle with Driver, multi-ride, cost $36 for 10 roundtrips.

These special tickets can only be purchased at the Whatcom County Treasurer's office,or by mail to the Treasurer's office. Print the order form . Print the application form , if you've never purchased Needs Based Ferry Tickets before. Fill out the form(s), make copies of your income verification documentation, and mail all items, with a check payable to WCT for the correct amount to: Whatcom County Treasurer, PO Box 5268, Bellingham WA 98227-5268. We will review your order, and return your tickets by mail, or contact you if we need additional information. Please be sure to include a daytime contact telephone number on the order form.

All other ferry tickets must be purchased at locations specified by the Whatcom County Public Works Ferry operations division.

Lummi Island ferry

There are 3 ways to qualify for the needs based ferry tickets:

1) Lummi Island residents who meet the income levels listed below. Proof of income and family size will be required. Eligibility will be reviewed at least annually.

Family of 4 or more, with less than $40,000 total annual income.

Family of 3, with less than $30,000 total annual income.

Family of 2, with less than $20,000 total annual income.

Individual with less than $10,000 total annual income.

2) Lummi Island residents who currently have a senior/disabled property tax exemption or deferral, as defined under RCW 84.36.381 and RCW 84.38.030 and WAC 458-16-020. Proof of qualification will be based upon records of the Whatcom County Assessor's office, and updated annually.

3) Lummi Island residents who qualify for medical assistance within the Medicaid Program. Valid Medicaid identification card will be required at the time of purchase.
