Students Internships

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office offers student internships on a continuous basis to students who wish to volunteer their time to learn more about law enforcement, and if applicable, earn academic credit.

Student internships are offered in the following divisions:

  • Detectives
  • Records/ID
  • Crime Analysis

Work assignments vary according to the division. If you are interested in an internship, contact the volunteer service coordinator.

Sheriff Department Volunteer Information

For more information than what is available here on our web site, contact the volunteer service coordinator during regular office hours at (360) 676-6650 or send e-mail to Al Cheesman at Acheesma@co.whatcom.wa.us

Or you can simply come into our office and pick up a volunteer application. Applications are processed for a background investigation and after an interview and successful completion of a polygraph examination, students are allowed to serve in different divisions within the Sheriff’s Office, depending on interests or greatest need.

Other volunteer activities are also available through the Sheriff's Office and the Division of Emergency Management:
