Stormwater

Mission  Nooksack River

At Whatcom County Public Works-Stormwater, we work to protect water resources, improve water quality, and reduce impacts from stormwater runoff in the unincorporated areas of our county.  We implement stormwater programs and build capital improvement projects in target watersheds in the following areas:

Stormwater formerly took the the lead in compliance of requirements for the County’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II permit. This program is now managed under the County's Public Works-Special Projects Division. More information on this program is available by clicking on the following:

What We Do Every Day

Stormwater staff develop plans, implement work programs, manage studies, provide support to citizen committees, lead and participate on multi-agency teams, and create informational materials on water issues in the County.

We also work with other County staff from Health, Public Works, Planning and Development Services, and Cooperative Extension to ensure an integrated approach to water issues throughout the County.

The Comprehensive Water Resources Plan for Whatcom County is provided in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.
