EnviroStars Rating System

The EnviroStars rating system helps you communicate your commitment to environmental protection to your customers.  You can display the EnviroStars decal on your store window, use the EnviroStars logo in  your own marketing efforts and hang our certificate of recognition in your waiting room.  EnviroStars profiles businesses that have reduced hazardous waste in success stories that are distributed to local media.  In addition, advertisements in local media highlight EnviroStars businesses.

• To verify your waste practices and be considered for EnviroStars recognition, request an educational on-site consultation.

EnviroStars in Whatcom County is a joint effort of Whatcom County Health Department and the regional EnviroStars Cooperative.

Program Requirements:

• You are located in Whatcom County
• You don't generate large quantities of hazardous waste
• You set a goal to reduce hazardous waste for the year
• You receive a visit from EnviroStars in Whatcom County to verify that your waste is properly managed
• You fill out a waste prevention opportunities worksheet (for more than two stars)

The EnviroStars rating system is based on your company's commitment to hazardous waste reduction.  The more proactive you are, the more recognition you receive.

The Ratings:

  2 Stars:

Show us that you manage your hazardous waste properly and receive:

• A Certificate of Recognition
• A window decal showing your EnviroStars rating
• The EnviroStars camera-ready logo to use in your marketing efforts

  3 Stars:

Show us that you have reduced the amount of hazardous waste you produce by changing your practices, processes or products, and your business will receive all of the above, plus:

• Be highlighted in advertisements in local print media
• Be highlighted in local radio advertisements

  4 Stars:

Show us that you have taken comprehensive action to reduce waste in all aspects of your business and you will receive all of the above, plus:

• Special recognition in local media advertisements and community events
• Be automatically nominated for the WIN Environmental Achievement Awards

  5 Stars:

Show us that you are a leader in preventing hazardous waste and that you recycle solid waste, and your business will receive all of the above, plus:

• Be profiled in a success story distributed to the local media
• Be automatically nominated for the Washington State Governor's Award for Outstanding Achievement
• Be featured in special promotions and displays
