Welcome

Thank you for visiting the Whatcom County Planning and Development Services web-site. The mission of Whatcom County Planning and Development Services is to ensure that growth and development occurs in a manner that protects the public health, safety and welfare, and ensures that the quality of life enjoyed by citizens and visitors in Whatcom County is preserved and enhanced.

Currently we are working on several projects supporting our mission and to improve our services for you. We plan to continue to update our web-site in order to post real time information and electronic forms.

The Long Range Planning staff and Planning Commission are busy with Growth Management Act compliance orders. Two of the current projects you might have heard about are:

  • Whatcom 2031 – review and update of the Comprehensive Plan and 10-year review of our Urban Growth Areas.
  • Rural Element Updates – updates to the policies and regulations for managing growth and development in rural areas.

2009 promises to be a busy year and we are excited about the progress we are making in fulfilling our mission. We welcome your thoughts about how we can continue improving our services for the citizens of Whatcom County please feel free to email us at pds@co.whatcom.wa.us.
