Field Trips
Note: Due to budget reductions, there will be very limited programming offered by Whatcom County Parks & Recreation in 2011.
Teachers -
Introduce
your students to a wetland environment and the unique wildlife
that lives in and around Tennant Lake. The 1-hour introductory
tour (appropriate for pre-school and kindergarten) includes a visit to the
observation tower and naturalist guided boardwalk adventure. The
11/2-hour general tour (1st grade and up) includes a brief introduction in the Interpretive
Center, tower visit, boardwalk exploration, and an opportunity
to examine the lake's aquatic life through pond dipping activities.
Arrangements
can be made for longer tours (ask about our full day, five-hour
program for 4th - 6th grade) and activities can be tailored to individual classroom
curriculum. Staff naturalists will guide students through all
aspects of the Tennant Lake field trip experience. Exciting wildlife
viewing opportunities await your students as they discover
the important role wetlands play in maintaining healthy ecosystems
Tours of nearby Hovander Homestead Park are also offered. Hovander
tours utilize the rich cultural and historical heritage of the
site allowing students to step back in time. Spring tours begin
in April. Available dates fill rapidly, please call to register
soon to avoid scheduling conflicts. For more details or to schedule
a tour at either site teachers may contact the Whatcom County Parks & Recreation at 360-733-2900.
