Are there volunteer
opportunities available at the Bellingham Senior Center?
There are many ways to lend a helping hand at the Center including:
front office reception assistant, coffee bar attendant, hostess
desk greeter, lunchroom server, pancake breakfast crew, class
teacher, committee member (advisory, program and fundraising)
and meals on wheels driver.
What kinds of services are provided by the Center?
A congregate, hot, well balanced lunch is provided by the Nutrition
Project from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The meal is provided on a
donation basis of $4.00 for persons 60 yrs. of age and over. Persons
under 60 can have the meal for $5.50.
Meals are delivered upon request for Seniors who are home bound
or recuperating. Call 733-4030 for information.
How is the Bellingham Senior Center financed?
The facility is a part of the Whatcom County Parks system which
maintains the building and provides operation staff, the Manager
and the Maintenance and Repair staff persons. The Whatcom County
Council on Aging contracts for provision of the Nutrition Project
and the Wellness Program. The Bellingham Senior Center provides
support staff and programs through its fundraising efforts and membership
dues.
How many members does the Bellingham Senior Center have?
Presently, the Center has approximately 1,600 members. Membership
dues are $24.00 per year.
What kinds of tours are provided by the tour program?
The Whatcom County Senior Tour Program is a county wide program.
Any member of any of the Whatcom County Senior Centers may take
a tour with us. A nominal non-member fee is requested for those
wanting to get acquainted with our wonderful tour program. We
provide guided day, overnight and even international extended
tours.
