Senior Tour Program
About Us
The Whatcom County Parks and
Recreation Department operates eight senior centers located
in Bellingham, Deming, Ferndale, Sumas, Lynden, Blaine, Everson
and Point Roberts.
Each center has a full calendar of events for those senior
citizens. Events offered include a wide range of classes and
social activities:
- Classes for everything from crafts to foreign languages,
low impact exercises, creative writing, metal casting, Bible
study, bridge, guitar, and lip reading
- Social activities including games, songs, music, dancing,
and special tours
Centers provide a place where senior citizens can come together
to help shape community awareness of their needs and interests.
Services
Individual and group services offered for seniors 60 and
over, are sponsored through the Whatcom County Council on
Aging . These are an important part of the program at each
of the senior centers.
Health care for seniors is provided through a wellness
program. Services range from:
- glaucoma screening
- hearing tests
- cholesterol testing
- health education lectures.
The Nutrition Program supplies:
- nutritious meals at many centers for those seniors who
are able to leave their homes.
- delivered meals to those who are not able to prepare their
own.
- Suggested donation of $3.00 per meal for eligible consumers.
All donations are confidential and no one is denied a meal if
unable to contribute. Food stamps may be used as a donation.
