Birding

Semiahmoo Park -
Monthly Birding Excursions

Semiahmoo County Park continues to host monthly birding excursions by the North Cascades Audubon Society chapter on the first Saturday of each month. A key feature of these outdoor events is a "birding for beginners" segment for people just getting into the wonders of birding.

Join naturalists Lynne Givler and Paul Woodcock and other birding experts as they track and describe the abundant bird activity on the Semiahmoo Spit. Semiahmoo Park is one of the premier bird observation points on the West Coast - an Important Birding Area (IBA), with its location as a major wintering area on the Pacific Flyway.

Semiahmoo is also a key site on the Great Washington State Birding Trail, which identifies the best places to watch birds in the Evergreen State. Some shorebirds winter in the area in large numbers, while other species stop by during migrations. Occasional stopovers by rare and uncommon species can be a special treat for the new or experienced birder.

Meet up: Meet by the totem pole in front of Semiahmoo Lodge at 9:00 am. For further information, please contact Lynne Givler at 360.966.4909 or lynne.givler@gmail.com.
