Other Whatcom County Parks & Recreation Areas
Whatcom County Parks & Recreation administers a number of areas that serve as ecological conservancy areas, neighborhood parks, or areas awaiting development as new county parks.
Bay Horizon Park
The former Blaine Air Force Station awaits development of play fields and other facilities. This park is the site of the Lions Camp Horizon and the Birch Bay Hostel.
Birch Bay Conservancy Area
Forest and wetlands adjoining Birch Bay State Park protect heron nests and other wildlife. No public facilities.
Dittrich Park
Swimming and other family recreation will be highlighted at this new park on the east side of Lake Samish. No public access.
Euclid Park
Wooded paths traverse this pocket forest by the shore of Lake Whatcom. Access trails from Lakeside Street north of Lakeway Drive.
Halverson Park
Big trees provide a pleasant natural space near Birch Bay. Access trails at intersection of Anderson Rd and Cedar Ave. No parking available. Park at Cottonwood Beach and walk along Cedar Ave to park.
Jensen Family Forest Park
A quiet loop trail winds through this forest of cedar and Douglas fir surrounded by agricultural lands. Parking lot and trailhead is located off Stein Road just south of Birch Bay-Lynden Road.
Josh VanderYacht Memorial Park
A picnic shelter, handball court, and playground are found at this picturesque memorial park in Van Zandt. Parking available at Van Zandt Community Center. Park is located behind the center.
Monument Park
The westernmost monument marking the US/Canada Boundary has great views of the Strait of Georgia and a path through giant trees to a quiet beach. Parking available at corner of Marine Drive and Roosevelt Rd. Trail enters forest just south of the monument.
Northwest Soccer Park
Considered one of the finest soccer facilities in Washington, the 12 full-size fields are operated and maintained by the Whatcom Sports Commission for games and tournaments through the spring, summer and fall. Park is located at the corner of Northwest Drive and Smith Road. Entrances from both roads.
Ostrom Conservation Site
The short interpretive trail in this park is used for outdoor education by local schools. The park is located off South Pass Rd, 3.5 miles from Highway 9. Limited parking at trailhead.
Redwood Park
A small picnic area in northwest Bellingham
Ted Edwards Park
Secluded picnic and play areas are provided in the Geneva neighborhood. |
