County Parks Leash Law Strictly Enforced
In the last several years, Hovander Homestead Park has become a very popular place to walk with or without dogs. Balancing access for dogs with the interests of all park users and with wildlife conservation is challenging.
Please look carefully at the map provided, which shows the on leash and off leash areas. Almost half of the park is now designated off leash. These areas are clearly marked on the map as well as on trail signs. We ask that you help us make everyone’s experience at Hovander a pleasant one by respecting the park’s leash law and by always picking up your pet’s waste.
Whatcom County Parks & Recreation policy specifically states that all dogs must be leashed at all times unless a specific off leash area is designated. In 2008 we will be strictly enforcing that leash policy and issuing citations to violators. We ask for your cooperation as you enjoy this wonderful community resource.
