
Whatcom County Parks & Recreation has developed several areas for access to saltwater and freshwater features for recreation, including fishing, shellfishing, boating, and beachcombing.

Birch Bay Beach & Tidelands Access
Parking areas off of Birch Bay Drive provide access to county-owned tidelands at several places in the Birch Bay community. The tide goes way,way out to make this the perfect place to wiggle your toes in the mud, build a sand castle, fly a kite, and splash in water warmed by the sunbaked flats on an incoming tide. Check seasons for outstanding shellfishing.

Lummi Island Beach Access
Relax on the deck overlooking Hale Passage, or follow stairs to public tidelands with honeycombed rock formations and views of the Lummi Island ferry. Access off Nugent Rd just north of the ferry landing.
Sunset Beach Access
Enjoy beautiful marine views and sunsets from this delightful joint public/private beach on Lummi Island. Access off West Shore Drive 150' south of The Willows Inn. map

Maple Beach Tidelands
A sandy beach and tidelands that stretch for miles have made this area a favored swimming, strolling, sunbathing, and shellfishing spot for generations of Point Roberts residents and visitors. Very limited parking; best access by foot or bicycle.

Nugents Corner River Access
Check Current Conditions
River Access allows fishing, sunbathing and walking along the gravel bars. Access just north of the Nooksack River bridge on Mount Baker Highway.
Welcome Bridge River Access
Access the North Fork Nooksack River for fishing and eagle viewing from December-February. Located just east of Welcome Bridge on Mosquito Lake Road. |
