Library Services

Public Access: The Law Library is staffed and open to the public on a part-time schedule. Please call ahead for the current schedule, as hours are subject to change.

Attorney Access: Members of the Whatcom County Bar Association may access the Law Library after hours. Please call the librarian for further information.

Circulation: Materials must be used in the library; no  check-out is available for the general public due to the small size of our collection.  Attorneys practicing in Whatcom County may check-out non-Reserve items for up to two  weeks.

Assistance to Library Users: Library staff cannot give legal advice or interpret materials, but can assist in locating and using legal research materials in print or electronic format.

Public Access Computers:  Three computers are available to access various legal research databases. Time limit is 15 minutes when others are waiting.

Library Tours: Brief orientation and library tours are  available for school classes or other interested groups. Please call to arrange a date and  time.

Library Collection

The library maintains a small collection of over 15,000 volumes containing the fundamental Washington laws and practice guides; Federal  laws; U.S. Supreme Court reports; Washington case law;  legal encyclopedias, digests, and law reports; and a small collection of reference  materials.

Legal Research

The law library maintains a list of legal research links, including free sources for statutes, case law, and public records.

About the Law Library

The Law  Library serves the citizens and legal community of Whatcom County. Our mission is to provide access to current legal research materials and referral to other resources.

Funding: The Law Library is funded through a portion of local court filing fees, and through a generous annual donation from the Whatcom County Bar Association. County law libraries are established by Washington Law R.C.W. 27.24
