 The Substance Abuse
Prevention Program works with a number of schools and community
based
organizations
to ensure effective prevention strategies are being implemented
in Whatcom County. In addition to ongoing prevention programming
that is being conducted, the Substance Abuse Prevention
Program also
provides:
- Coordination of activities around national alcohol and other
drug awareness events
- A quarterly substance abuse newsletter
- An information resource center
- Community trainings
- Informational booths at health and safety fairs
- Opportunities for youth to attend substance abuse prevention
conferences
- A community needs assessment every two years
- Funding to local community programs to support prevention
efforts
- Technical assistance to subcontractors
- Plus much more
Information regarding substance abuse prevention services conducted
through contracts with Whatcom County can be obtained from the
Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator.
