The Whatcom County Auditor has digitized images of recorded documents dating back to August 1991 and microfilm images for documents dating back to 1853.  Computer indexes start in 1982.  All documents are indexed by auditor file number, document date, grantor/grantee, and document type(s).  Documents recorded after January 1, 1997, are also indexed by Assessor’s parcel number and the property’s legal description.

Documents are available for search online through the Recorded Document Search.  All documents accessible online have had Social Security numbers redacted; the numbers are not viewable.


Marriage applications and certificates issued in Whatcom County date back to 1890 and can be examined in our Public Research area.  Marriage index data dating from 1980 is available online from our Recorded Document Search site.  You must have the name of either person and an approximate date of marriage.

Marriage certificates dating from 1890 to 1995 are also available from the Washington State Digital Archives
