Supporting Breastfeeding Mothers

This policy applies to Whatcom County employees who breastfeed their infants during the first year of life.

1. Whatcom County Provides Private Space for Breastfeeding
   
   Each supervisor of an employee choosing to breastfeed will identify private space for the mother to express and collect breast milk.
   
   This space, other than a bathroom, will be:
   
   
• Shielded from view
• Free from intrusion by co-workers or the public
  
  
2. Whatcom County Allows Paid and Unpaid Breaks
   

   Employees who choose to breastfeed their infants may take reasonable breaks during work hours to express and collect breast milk.  Break time which extends beyond normal paid breaks will be unpaid.
