Fare Policy Update and Current Rates

On May 18, 2020, the Lummi Island Ferry will reinstate fare collection without a cash payment option. Single trip purchases may be made aboard the ferry via credit or debit card.  

Major policy changes include: 

  • Single trip purchases may be made aboard the ferry via credit/debit card or check. No cash accepted.
  • No purchases of multi-ride punch cards on the Whatcom Chief.
  • Current needs based customers can purchase cards online or through the mail
    • Only persons currently in the needs-based program can purchase cards.
    • Anyone attempting to purchase a needs-based card for the first time, who is not currently enrolled, will have their payment refunded.
  • All multi ride punch cards - including current needs based cards - may be purchased onlineor by mail for full fare and needs based cards. 
    • Standard fare mail in form.
    • COVID-19 Needs based mail in form. Only current needs-based customers can purchase cards at this time.
    • For online purchases, please allow up to seven days to receive your punch card in the mail. For mail in purchases, please allow up to 10 days to receive your card in the mail.

  • The Civic Center Building is not open for walk-in customers at this time. 


  • Reduces the risk of COVID-19 infection to both passengers and crew.
  • Allows for greater deck safety as purser has more time on deck for directing traffic and other safety checks.
  • Improves auditing procedures/reduces risk.

The COVID 19 sailing schedule will remain in place until further notice. The sailing schedule will continue to compliment stay home, stay healthy recommendations from state officials. We will evaluate the sailing schedule as conditions change.
