The Whatcom County Health Department is committed to helping the owners and operators of pools and spas to expand their knowledge and expertise by offering an annual pool/spa workshop free of charge.
The workshop provides training and education, information on current and emerging state wide issues, networking with industry experts, and the opportunity to meet and ask questions of your local Environmental Health Specialists.
Whatcom County Health Department Annual Water Recreation Facility Operator Training held on March 31, 2016 was a marvelous success. A total of 54 attendees from Whatcom, Skagit, and Island counties attended. All were treated to two great key note speakers.
One speaker was Wayne Ivusich with Taylor Technologies. The other was Troy McGinty with Hayward Pool Products. Both are from Maryland. The Health Department would like to thank the presenters who traveled a far distance to present and educate the group.
Our conference host was Luis Flores, an Environmental Health Specialist with our department. Representatives from the WA State Department of Health, the YMCA, and Arnie Hanna Aquatic Center also contributed to the workshop’s success. Luis ended the conference with a passionate plea to work together to provide access to swim lessons for our rural youth. Many do not have easy access to these lessons.
